Malarkey gets 'green light' from Keys

The possibility of the Isle of Man's chief minister being chosen by a public vote has moved a step closer.

The House of Keys voted 12-11 to allow South Douglas MHK Bill Malarkey to bring forward a private member's bill, which will be considered by the branches of the legislature in due course.

The idea will now go out to consultation and Mr Malarkey is aware he will have to move fairly quickly, if the change is to be implemented in time for the 2011 general election:
