Poppies are being displayed on the front of 100 post vans as part of Isle of Man Post Office’s support to the Royal British Legion’s annual Poppy Appeal.
From today, (Friday 6th November) each post van is sporting the red flower which symbolises the annual Remembrance Day.
This initiative was a suggestion from an employee who felt Isle of Man Post Office should support the appeal because of its postal links with military personnel through the British Force’s Post Offices (BFPOs) and to remember Manx postal workers who fell in wars gone by.
In addition, Isle of Man Post Office has been supporting friends and family of HM Forces personnel since 2007, when it introduced free postage of standard letters and parcels up to 2kg to any BFPO.
The poppies remember the fallen of the First World War and implicitly of all wars. The Royal British Legion safeguards the welfare, interests and memory of those who are serving or who have served in the Armed Forces.
Bill Chacksfield, Chief Executive of Isle of Man Post Office, said, "This suggestion from an employee was felt a worthy one.
"Isle of Man Post Office has always been committed to the Forces and indeed many of our postmen fell in both the First and Second World Wars.
"We feel that by displaying a poppy on each of our post vans, we will be remembering those that have fallen and contributing towards raising the profile of the annual Poppy Appeal."
Bill Chacksfield will be laying a wreath for all fallen postmen at St John’s on Sunday 8th November.
