The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company has supported a local business undertaking a charity mission to provide aid to the poor and homeless in Romania.

Parkinson Limited employees Andy and Chris Gregory, Graham Quayle and Jeff Robertson, with the help of Richard Daly and Keith Sully, have undertaken an expedition to Romania to assist the charity Hands of Hope, which seeks to help the poor, needy and homeless in Romania through practical home building projects, the distribution of aid and the befriending of families and disadvantaged people.

As part of the expedition, the Manx group undertook the return trip from the Isle of Man to Dorohoi, which is approximately 3,750 miles, in three vans over 10 days.

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company assisted with their return travel from the Isle of Man to Heysham.

The purpose of the expedition was to deliver bedding and consumable supplies, including nappies, vitamins, toothbrushes, toothpaste, feeding bottles, soft toys and other basic essentials to Hands of Hope. The group also helped carry out repairs and maintenance work at these facilities.

Parkinson Building Maintenance Services Manager Andy Gregory said, "We are most appreciative of the help the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company has given to support Hands of Hope and their good works in Romania.

"A 3,750 mile round trip is a long journey but with the Steam Packet’s help the journey got off to a good start."

Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward said, "We are delighted to be able to show our support for such a worthwhile charity.  This expedition will make a difference to the poor, needy and homeless in Romania."
