MHK disappointed by proposed zoning

by isleofman.com 6th November 2009

The Island's planners are being accused of ignoring public opinion and bowing to the wishes of developers.

It follows the recent publication of the Draft Area Plan for the south of the Island, and the proposed zoning of land on the outskirts of Port Erin.

Rushen MHK Phil Gawne says there is a strong feeling the 30 acres at Ballakilley, between Four Roads and Ballafesson, should be preserved as a 'green belt', with perhaps a small number of new homes, in the area opposite Rushen Primary School.

But that's not how the planners see it (play audio file):

Comments on the draft plan must be submitted to the Department of Local Government and the Environment by January 29 next year, and Mr Gawne is urging people to make their views known.
