DoT will spend cash away from Peel

The Department of Transport says it will look at spending its money elsewhere, after Peel commissioners rejected plans for a new sewage treatment plant.

The DoT wanted to build the open facility a few hundred yards from the power station, inside the town boundary, but there was strong opposition from local residents.

On Mandate today, Transport Minister David Anderson said after the town's commissioners voted narrowly to oppose the scheme, his department would prioritise its spending and look to improve the sewerage system elsewhere.

He says the opposition means the department will look for other, more supportive locations:
