The Department of Education is pleased to announce that Helen Caley has been appointed Headteacher of Jurby School.

Mrs Caley will take up the position in April 2010, succeeding Carol Beck, who has been Headteacher since September 1990 and who is retiring.

After graduating with a degree in Geography and Education from Warwick University, Mrs Caley started her teaching career at Laxey School.

She has since taught at a number of Island primary schools and for the last two years has been Deputy Headteacher at Peel Clothworkers’ School.

Mrs Caley said, "I have thoroughly enjoyed working at Peel Clothworkers’ School. It is a super school with great children, excellent colleagues and very supportive parents and governors."

She said of her appointment to Jurby School, which has 63 children on the register, "I am really excited to be joining Jurby School.  It is a school with a real sense of community and I am looking forward to meeting and working with the staff, children and parents."

Mrs Caley is married and has a teenage son. Her interests include walking, playing bowls, reading and spending time with her family.
