Scottish firm caught up in Karina scam

The tour manager of Hebridean Island Cruises says an unusual scam offering people the chance to work on the Manx pleasure cruiser MV Karina also caused her company some concern.

Thousands of people around the world have been emailed information offering the opportunity for employment aboard the Karina, which is run by Captain Stephen Carter's Laxey Towing Company.

As reported on Manx Radio recently, no such jobs existed and the emails were simply attempts by fraudsters to obtain money from their vicitms.

However, the picture used in the email wasn't of the MV Karina, but of the Hebridean Princess, run by Hebridean Island Cruises.

Spokesperson Jane Yates says it came to her attention through a strange call from a member of the public, asking about job opportunities on the Karina:
