Leppard to premiere new composition

by isleofman.com 31st October 2009

A piece of music celebrating the Isle of Man's heritage will be premiered this evening.

It's been written by the world famous conductor Raymond Leppard, who studied music at Trinity College in Cambridge, was musical director of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra for 14 years up to 2001, and wrote the soundtrack to the film Lord of the Flies.

He is the president of the Erin Arts Centre and tonight (Saturday) is conducting the English Chamber Orchestra at the Villa Marina where the new work will be given its first public performance.

Mr Leppard says he enjoyed writing the light-hearted piece (play audio file):

Tickets are still available for the concert, which also features music by Britten, Haydn and Mozart.
