Manx National Heritage is launching their annual Winter Lecture Programme, as per tradition, with a joint lecture with the Isle of Man Victorian Society.
This year's inaugural lecture, which takes place this evening (30th October) is titled 'Manchester the Victorian City: Shock City of the Industrial Revolution-the symbol of a whole new age'.
The lecture will be presented by visiting speaker David Rhodes, a recently retired architect, conservation officer and town planner from Harrogate.
Peter Kelly of the Isle of Man Victorian Society said, "It will be nice to welcome David back to the Island after 29 years, at that time he was the youthful chairman of the Manchester Group of the UK Victorian Society.
"His knowledge of the buildings of Manchester is second to none as is his love for the city."
Anthea Young, Education Officer from Manx National Heritage, said "Manchester is unique for becoming the world's first industrialised city following the expansive and unplanned urbanisation which resulted from the boom in textile manufacture.
"The lecture will be a fascinating insight into the changing face of the landscape as Manchester rapidly transformed from manorial town to a City with a profound influence on the Industrial Revolution."
'Manchester the Victorian City' starts tonight at 7.30pm in the Manx Museum lecture theatre. Doors open at 7.00pm and entry is free.
