Shakespeare at southern venue in 2010

Residents in Ballasalla hope outdoor productions of Shakespeare's plays could become an annual event, after a theatre company said it would perform at Rushen Abbey instead of Peel Castle.

Theatre Setup says it will stage the Merchant of Venice in the open air on July 30 and 31, and Sunday August 1, after problems with the castle last year.

Eddie Power of the Ballasalla And District Residents' Association says hosting the event is great news for the village.

And he hopes it will continue to be held at the abbey into the future:
