Local firms should have done runway work

Hauliers, unhappy at missing out on contracts for work at Isle of Man Airport, have been told more of them should have been used.

Only a handful of local firms gained any work on the multi-million pound project to create the new safety area and taxi-ways at Ronaldsway, with most of it going off-Island.

A convoy of hauliers demonstrated their anger in a go-slow convoy on roads in the south of the Island earlier this month.

The Island Road Transport Association voiced its concerns at a meeting with Transport Minister David Anderson and senior officials this week.

The association was told local firms should be used as a priority, and its chairman John Bennett says they are up to the task:
