Schools Compete to 'Break' the Ice

by isleofman.com 27th October 2009

Primary school students are being given the chance to be the first people on the 'Sure Skate' ice rink when it opens in November by entering a special competition.

Year groups 3 – 6 (eight to 11 years old) are being asked to design a poster to promote Sure Skate and write 50 words as to why they should be the first people to try out the rink.

The winning class will have a private ice-skating lesson from ‘Dancing on Ice’ star Kyran Bracken, scheduled to take place ahead of the launch event on Monday 23rd November.

Julie Heselton, Marketing Manager for Sure, comments, "Sure Skate is going to be a great community event for the whole Island and this is an excellent opportunity for students to demonstrate their artistic and team-building skills.

"In return, they have the opportunity to get their skates on and learn from one of the most popular ‘Dancing on Ice Stars’ to-date and put their new ice moves into practice over the Christmas period."

Classes are being asked to work together to design an A4 poster that advertises the real ice rink and the fact that up to 200 people can skate at any one time.

The winning entry will be displayed on the colonnade glass panels of the Villa Marina.
