Maths Symposium at Ramsey today

The Island's brightest young mathematical minds are getting together at Ramsey Grammar School today.

One of the main aims of the 6th form Mathematics Symposium is to show that, far from being an abstract subject at A and degree level, it can be a very practical, versatile and rewarding one.

On hand to provide inspiration to the 100 or so teenagers involved will be Dr David Acheson of Jesus College, Oxford, who is giving a talk entitled 'Mathematics, Magic and the Electric Guitar'.

One of the organisers, Castle Rushen maths teacher Heather Bellinger, says a degree in maths offers many career opportunities:
