MHK's scheme to pay for UK health care

As concern increases over the ending of the reciprocal health agreement, an MHK has come forward with proposals he believes would benefit locals and visitors alike.

From next April, healthcare for Manx residents in the United Kingdom will no longer be free, following the UK government's decision to withdraw from the long-running arrangement.

This week in Tynwald, Onchan member Peter Karran will call for the Manx government to introduce a levy on all off-Island travel, to fund a compulsory insurance scheme for medical treatment in the UK.

He also believes visitors to the Island should not have to pay for healthcare here should they need it.

Mr Karran says we all have a duty to help the vulnerable in society:
