Patients unhappy with MEDs relocation

by isleofman.com 19th October 2009

There's growing concern over the decision to move the Island's out of hours emergency GP service from Noble's Hospital, as part of preparations for admitting patients with swine flu.

Some patients have complained they can't find the MEDs service, which is now based at the former Noble's site in Westmoreland Road, Douglas.

Others say the consulting rooms are not adequately equipped.

Marian Kenny reports (text, below, from attached audio file):

The MEDS emergency doctor service deals with patients who need to see a GP outside normal surgery hours.

It's been dislodged from its base next to A and E at Noble's Hospital, making room for the admission of people with swine flu, and separating them from other emergency cases.

But staff are spending time giving directions to the MEDs service in the Community Health Centre in Westmoreland Road, with drivers saying there's no sign outside.

It's understood the consulting rooms haven't yet been provided with a standard bed and doctors have examined patients on a reclining chair, normally used by the podiatrist.
