Douglas’ impressive home record was dented when they went down 27-20 to Oldershaw in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Two.

Douglas took an early lead courtesy of a Bryn Snellgrove penalty, however, the visitors hit back almost straight away when left wing Adam Taylor raced home for a try which was converted by Mark Hallam.

Hallam then put flanker Ritchie Lloyd-Jones clear for Oldershaw’s second try and, as half-time approached, they bagged their third when tight head prop James Griffiths crashed home from close range.

Snellgrove squeezed over his second penalty with the last kick of the first half to reduce the Oldershaw lead to 17-6.

Hallam was on target with a penalty for Oldershaw early in the second half to push the lead out to 20-6 before the Douglas fightback began.

However, as they pushed forward, Douglas were exposed at the back and when a pass went astray in the Oldershaw twenty two, Hallam swooped on the loose ball and fed Lloyd-Jones for his second try.

This galvanised Douglas and they hit back in the closing minutes.

Seb Jeanneau and Bryn Snellgrove both crossed for tries as Douglas dominated territorially and with Snellgrove nailing both conversions, they found themselves just seven points adrift, but they had left it just too late and were beaten by the whistle.
