The Children’s Centre's new complex on Woodbourne Road, Douglas, was officially launched today, marking the start of a bright new era for the charity (formerly referred to as 'the Isle of Man's Children's Centre).
The 3000 square foot building, which joins up the charity’s existing premises in Woodbourne Road, Douglas, was officially opened by the Patron of The Children’s Centre, Mary Cringle JP.
Over 50 guests attended the ceremony, amongst them leading business figures and many of The Children’s Centre key funders and supporters throughout the local community.
Representing the Government were Chief Minister Tony Brown, MHK; Eddie Teare, MHK, Minister for Department of Health and Social Security; Adrian Earnshaw, MHK, Minister for Home Affairs; and David Cretney, MHK, Minister for Trade and Industry.
The landmark occasion was the culmination of an unprecedented three year fund raising campaign, The Building Blocks Appeal, which has received tremendous support from charitable trusts, businesses and members of the public.
When the Appeal closed in January, and building work got underway, the fund had reached £590,000.
The new three storey premises will provide sufficient space at Woodbourne Road for a Family Centre, Nursery, After School and Holiday Club, a Child Contact Centre and Family Mediation Service, plus a Training Suite.
Mrs Cringle said of the new complex, "This is achievement of a goal which, at one time, seemed almost impossible to reach.
"We must extend our gratitude to everyone, all the corporate backers, and all the members of the public, all our dedicated fundraisers and supporters who have, all made such an invaluable contribution to getting this complex built."
"Looking after the interests of families and young people has always been our number one priority and I would also like to acknowledge
the support of a very committed Board Trustees, and the dedication of the staff."
