Maersk pulls 17 ships off Island registry

The Island's Ship Registry has been dealt a blow with the news Maersk is taking 17 supply vessels off it.

The firm cites a need to simplify its global structure - and therefore save money - as the reason for removing them and 15 UK-registered ones and re-flag them under the Danish International Registry.

Maersk says the move is no reflection of the quality of the Manx flag, or the service which has been provided.

Head of the Isle of Man Ship Registry Dick Welsh says it's disappointing but stresses the firm will retain a presence on the Island:
