Airport fence costs rise

A security fence at Ronaldsway Airport will cost more than expected – because of government guidelines.

The Department of Transport will ask for cash for the fence during next week’s October sitting of Tynwald.

Money had been set aside for the scheme after a UK audit in 2005 said security arrangements urgently needed upgrading.

Airport Director Ann Reynolds says because the fence is so expensive there are criteria which must be met:
