Children's Mosaics Celebrate School History

by isleofman.com 9th October 2009

As part of a year-long 175th Anniversary celebration, every child at Arbory primary school has helped to make large mosaic decorative panels.

Each class at Arbory has produced a single panel that now decorates walls on the exterior of Arbory School.

The panel designs were chosen and developed by the children, who worked on a variety of ideas and then chose one to represent their classes’ contribution.

Each panel has a different theme, from invaders to sea creatures, and all represent an aspect of life on the Isle of Man.

Each work of art incorporates elements from the local environment, such as shells, local stone, flotsam and jetsam, which have then been woven into a bright creative whole.

The result is seven works of art that celebrate the school, its place in the community, the Island and the children who made them.

Parents will be invited to view these works at a parents' evening planned for Wednesday 14th October.

Any members of the public are also welcome to see the mosaics between 3:45pm and 6:00pm on the same day.

The school's headteacher, Mr Manton, has expressed his thanks "to all staff, children and Friends for making such a wonderful and fitting tribute to our school."
