Staff wait for news on outstanding pay

by isleofman.com 8th October 2009

Twenty-one staff made redundant when an Island convenience store went into receivership are waiting to find out if they will be paid for their last few weeks of work.

Staff of Nearbuy Ltd - which runs Birch Hill and Ballachrink stores in Onchan, as well as the main Nearbuy in Westmoreland Road in Douglas - were informed of the news on Tuesday night.

Although the employees were paid at the end of last month, it's understood some cheques have bounced within the last few days.

Those made redundant had a meeting with the government's industrial relations officer yesterday afternoon.
