The author of a new book charting 50 years of finance in the Isle of Man has been recalling some of the vociferous political debates on the subject, half a century ago.
'No Man Is An Island' was commissioned by the Manx Heritage Foundation and was written by Roger Rawcliffe.
He remembers a Tynwald debate in 1960 which, many feel, shaped the Isle of Man as it is known today.
It centred on whether the Island should abolish surtax and look for an alternative form of income away from tourism.
