Decision on crossing patrol some way off

by isleofman.com 5th October 2009

Transport officials have moved to allay road safety fears near an Onchan primary school.

Last week, parents and commissioners expressed concern that the Ashley Hill patrol officer, at the Avondale Road/Birchhill Crescent crossing point, may no longer be needed, as a pelican crossing had been installed at nearby Hillberry.

They said it was too far away from the current crossing place, and children would have to walk in an area where there was no pavement.

However, the Department of Transport says while a survey shows the number of children using the crossing patrol has dropped dramatically, no decision will be made until a consultation has been completed, and a further survey carried out.
