Marown go clear

by isleofman.com 3rd October 2009

A late goal helped Marown open up a lead at the top of CFS Division Two on Saturday.

They were 2-1 winners over Ayre United in the match of the day at Crosby.

The sides were level going into the closing stages when Jason Craine slotted an equaliser for Ayre after they had conceded an own goal.

However, a superb late free-kick from Gary Thomas earned Marown the spoils and home celebrations.

Pulrose failed in their bid to close the gap after being held to a surprise 1-1 draw by lowly Ronaldsway.

The Rockets earned an excellent point – Liam Crawley was on target for the home side with Barry English the Pulrose scorer.

Douglas Royal had no such problems as they cruised to a 7-1 home win against a Foxdale side missing Aaron Costain.

A Dave Skillen hat-trick led the way. Gavin Gawne hit two and there were also goals for Chris Anderson and Sean Valentine.

Colby had to overcome battling opponents before winning 6-1 at Douglas and District.

Richard Brant was on target for D&D as they held Colby 1-1 at the break.

But the southerners took charge in the second half with the goals coming from James Collett, Marty Moore, Craig Gelling, Kyle Lunn (two) and Steven Leece.

Ramsey Youth Centre and Malew finished 2-2.

Tommy Tidy struck a double for Malew with regular scorers Martin Murphy, from the penalty spot, and Aidan Cummins the Youth Centre marksmen.

The Police caused a surprise with a 3-0 home win over Onchan.
