St Mary’s have issued an emphatic indication of their title credentials.

They won 2-1 at reigning champions St George’s on Saturday – their first league victory at the Geordies for more than six years.

And not only did the result make their Sure Mobile Premier League title rivals sit up and take notice, it left the Geordies up against it in the race for the title – and Parkinson Railway Cup qualification - after a third league defeat.

Liam Cowin gave the Saints a first half lead direct from a corner before Steven Priestnal doubled the advantage against his former club.

Chris Bass junior pulled one back for the champions but St Mary’s took the points.

Peel remain on top and cruised to a 5-0 victory over Ramsey at Douglas Road, courtesy of goals from Marc Kelly (two), Kerron Christian (two) and Daniel Lace.
