Nurses celebrate important anniversary

District nurses past and present in the Isle of Man have gathered for a special celebration, to mark their 150th anniversary.

The service has come a long way in a century and a half!

From the familiar local nurse who cycled around visiting her patients, district nurses now work in much larger teams, offering a range of services.

An afternoon tea was held at Crookall House where the guest was Rosemary Cook, who is director of the Queen's Nursing Institute in London.

Before Friday's gathering, acting service manager Margaret Swindlehurst told Manx Radio today's district nurses provided a year-round service, attending to people in their own homes:
