Man 'grew his own' to save money

by isleofman.com 2nd October 2009

A Douglas man who cultivated a cannabis plant to save money on drugs has been given a suspended jail sentence.

Forty-four-year-old James Thomas Hughes, of Mona Drive, admitted possessing the plant.

High Bailiff Michael Moyle was told Hughes had suffered long-term drug dependency and had been given the plant, which he had grown to save money buying drugs.

Mr Moyle told him taking drugs could make his other problems worse, and imposed a four-month jail term suspended for two years.

He also imposed a two-year supervision order and ordered Hughes to undergo twice-monthly drug tests.
