School crossing concern in Onchan

by isleofman.com 1st October 2009

Plans to remove a school crossing patrol officer in Onchan have angered parents and commissioners.

The Avondale Road/Birchhill Crescent post is no longer considered necessary by transport chiefs as a pelican crossing has been installed nearby.

However, safety concerns are being outlined for pupils at Ashley Hill Primary School.

Commissioners’ chairman Brian Stowell says it’s obvious why.

A spokesman for the Department of Transport has yet to respond.
