Education official on children's online safety

Could schools in the Isle of Man do more to ensure children protect their online presence when using social networking websites?

The 'e-safety' of pupils while working on PCs at school is kept under constant review, and extensive measures are in place to monitor their use.

The Island's ICT advisor for schools has been reflecting on what further advice youngsters could be given to protect themselves on the internet.

Graham Kinrade was speaking after the Island's first conviction for sexual grooming.

Although the offences didn't involve internet contact, Mr Kinrade says it highlights the need for teachers to use any opportunity to teach safe practice:
