A new scheme to improve driving standards among newly-qualified young drivers will be launched next spring.
It's called 'Manx Pass Plus' and is a modified version of a course currently available in the United Kingdom.
It aims to reduce the accident rate involving drivers in the 16 to 25 age group.
Figures show that almost 13 per cent of 17-year-olds will be involved in some form of accident during their first year behind the wheel.
Derek Sewell from the Department of Transport says the idea is to give young motorists the chance to experience conditions with which they could be unfamiliar, including driving in the dark, on high speed roads and in poor weather conditions.
