Church appoints first honorary canons

History will be made in the Anglican church in the Isle of Man this weekend.

For the very first time, six honorary canons are being appointed to the Cathedral Church of St German in Peel.

A service to confirm the appointments will be held at the cathedral tomorrow afternoon, after a day-long Diocesan Synod.

Three of the new canons are parish vicars, the Reverands Peter Robinson, Norma Cole and David Greenwood.

Reverend David Shirtliff is a Methodist minister from Douglas, while the two other canons, Judith Ley and Helen Parry, are not clergy.

Reverend Shirtliff says as a group they aim to lead the cathedral into a era:
