Euthanasia guidelines welcomed

New guidelines to clarify the law surrounding assisted suicide have been released in England and Wales, but will they affect the Isle of Man?

Tynwald has addressed the issue several times in the past decade and Rushen MHK Quintin Gill has said he will bring the topic before the court again at next month's sitting.

There are no changes in the UK law but the guidelines clarify the factors which would lead to prosecution of friends and relatives of those undertaking assisted suicide.

On Talking Heads today, Andrew Dixon of the Isle of Man Freethinkers said it provided some comfort for people facing a very distressing situation:
