Douglas Seeks Entertainers for Festive Season

by isleofman.com 23rd September 2009

Christmas may be months away but plans are already underway to entertain Douglas shoppers with seasonal sounds over the festive period.

The Douglas Development Partnership is drawing up a programme of street entertainment for Christmas and inviting artists – music and dance – to come forward and audition for licences to perform in Strand Street.

Development assistant Sue Bagnall says, "We’re planning to have a varied programme of events in the town centre over Christmas, ideally a mix of traditional, contemporary, innovative  and maybe even experimental entertainment.

"We also hope to attract performers who can inject some elements of Manx culture into the mix."

Development manager Chris Pycroft adds, "We’re hoping that through these auditions we’ll be able to add to the list of performers on our database, artists on whom we can draw not only at Christmas but also at other times of the year to help create a vibrant street theatre scene in the heart of Douglas."

The Partnership would also welcome information from Douglas retailers on any extended shopping hours or additional seasonal services they will be introducing over the Christmas period.

For more informatiom, email Sue Bagnall, sbagnall@douglas.org.im, telephone (01624) 612022 or call in to 7-13 Victoria Street, Douglas.
