Drink driver had 'appalling record'

by isleofman.com 23rd September 2009

A 26-year-old man has been jailed for a total of five months for drink driving.

David John Lawrence Carter, of Ronague in Arbory, admitted the offence, as well as driving while disqualified, not having insurance or a vehicle licence and provoking behaviour.

Jane Hughes, prosecuting, said Carter struck a member of staff at the greenkeeper's hut in Derbyhaven with a baseball bat, at 1.20pm on February 16.

He was also caught riding his motorbike while disqualified with a blood alcohol reading of 181 milligrammes, well over the legal limit of 80.

Carter's advocate said he was being realistic and knew custody was likely. He had the bike only to run around the field near his home.

Mr Moyle said he had an appalling record, including four drink driving offences, and three for driving while disqualified.

In addition to the prison term, he banned him from driving for seven years.
