Barclays Wealth is helpig to stage a 'Three Legs of Man' world record attempt this October and is asking the public to limber up!
The aim is to break the current world record for three legged racing, which stands at 380 people - or 190 pairs.
It is hoped that the Isle of Man attempt will attract in excess of 2,000 people.
The event is being co-ordinated by Barclays Wealth staff, in particular Damian Bird, Ian Pilley and Kerrie McCauley who are working hard to ensure that the event is a record breaker.
The race will take place on 11th October at Noble’s Park, Douglas.
Starting at 2pm, it will be run over a 250 metre course and each couple will be counted in as they cross the start line to comply with Guinness requirements.
To break the existing record, over 190 pairs will need to complete the race and remain tied together for the duration.
For those taking part in the record attempt, the organisers are asking for a donation of ?20 per couple which will be donated to the Barclays Wealth Charity of the Year, Wish Upon a Dream.
It is hoped that through sponsorship and entry fees over ?25,000 will be raised at the event for the local charity.
Barclays Wealth has agreed to match money raised ? for ? up to a maximum of ?30,000 which will make this one of the largest one-off fundraising events to take place on the Island in recent years.
Ian Pilley, Chairman Community Affairs Committee, Barclays Wealth says, "We have had a really positive response from people who would like to take part in the event but we need even more to ensure that we break the record.
"There are a couple of other attempts taking place before the end of the year so we’re hoping to attract as many as people as possible to complete the race.
"This way we can be confident that the Isle of Man will appear in the record books as the holder of the record for the world’s biggest three legged race!
"It would be fantastic if we could raise the target amount of ?25,000 for Wish Upon a Dream while breaking the record so we are asking everyone to collect as much sponsorship money as possible to help this worthwhile cause."
Lesley Turnbull, Wish Upon a Dream, said, comments, "It is very exciting to be involved with a world record attempt and we, as a charity, are obviously delighted that the organisers have decided to donate the proceeds to Wish Upon a Dream.
"This donation will make a huge contribution to making the wishes of local poorly children come true.’
