Pier Group Commissions Restoration Design

by isleofman.com 22nd September 2009

Consulting engineers have been appointed to develop a preliminary design for the refurbishment of Queen’s Pier in Ramsey.

BWB Consulting has been commissioned by the Steering Group established by the Council of Ministers to progress options to secure the future of the pier.

The firm will be communicating with key stakeholders including Ramsey Commissioners and the Friends of Queen’s Pier about production of the refurbishment design.

Meanwhile a technical evaluation is continuing into the concept of developing a marina, incorporating the pier, in Ramsey Bay.

Chaired by Minister Phil Gawne MHK, the Steering Group also comprises Alex Downie MLC and David Quirk MHK.

It was authorised by Tynwald in January this year to progress two options for the pier: a Government-funded refurbishment and a privately-funded marina.

A report back to Tynwald, including estimated costs, is due by November this year.
