Young Jessie O’Connell has proved that there are no age barriers when it comes to raising money for charity.
At just seven years old, Jessie decided to arrange a summer fayre at her house in Palatine Road, Douglas in support of the Isle of Man Children’s Centre.
In July, she took part in the charity’s Pennies on the Playground and, after attending an IOMCC Out2Play scheme at her own St Thomas’s School, Jessie and her friend Rachel Lewis, 6, thought it would be a good idea to raise money for future Out2Play schemes.
The fayre, which included a treasure hunt, a jam and cake stall and even a few magic tricks performed by Jessie, raised a bumper ?100 - and earned huge praise from the Children’s Centre.
"This is a fantastic achievement by Jessie," said IOMCC Fundraising Coordinator Michelle O’Malley.
"On behalf of everyone at the Children’s Centre, I’d like to publicly thank Jessie for all the work and effort she put in to raise this money.
"Out2Play benefits literally thousands of children throughout the Isle of Man during the school holidays and we are very grateful to people like Jessie who put on their own events to raise money for the scheme.
Jessie’s Mum, Annie, said she was really proud of what Jessie had achieved.
"She understands the importance of supporting charities and because she had such a great time at Out2Play, it seemed like a good idea to use our garden for a fundraising summer fayre," said Annie.
