'Green' cars go on sale

A local businessman has become a self-styled 'e-go maniac'.

Steve Burrows from Port Erin has imported the first of what he hopes will be a fleet of eco-friendly cars.

The Evie, which is based on the popular Citroen C1 Supermini, relies purely on electrical power, unlike the increasingly popular hybrid cars which feature electric power in conjunction with the usual petrol engine.

Mr Burrows admits that at ?18,000 for the base model the electric car is still expensive, but he believes as they become more popular the price will come down.

For the time being he's hoping to attract 'early adopters' of the new technology and people wishing to lead a greener lifestyle:
