Irish divers make pilgrimage to WWI wreck

A group of Manx divers has helped Dundalk mark a tragedy which hit the Irish town over 90 years ago.

During World War I, 19 people, many of whom were from the town, lost their lives when the civilian ship SS Dundalk was torpedoed by a German U-boat, about 20 miles off the south coast of the Isle of Man.

Recently, Dundalk Sub Aqua Club made a pilgrimage to the wreck, after getting training in the Island for the tricky 60 metre dive.

The Manx team, led by Steve Cowley, also took the party out to the wreck and shared with the Irish divers everything they had learned, having already visited it.
