Japanese invasion planned!

A bug could be the answer to the menace of knotweed in the Isle of Man.

It's the most invasive plant in Britain and is proving expensive to remove from the 2012 Olympic Games site in London.

It can also be rampant in the countryside and has already replaced natural vegetation along some of the Island's watercourses, which reduces the variety of insects needed as a food source for trout.

Now the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry wants to introduce a bug to the Island which only attacks knotweed, if the public approves.

Minister Phil Gawne says it seems a reasonable idea:
