Peel defeat champions

by isleofman.com 19th September 2009

Peel issued a statement of intent on Saturday.

The westerners came from behind to win 2-1 at champions St George’s to underline their title credentials.

Callum Morrissey, so often Peel’s nemesis, fired the home side in front.

However, Peel hit back to end their bad run of form against the Geordies.

Johnny Myers levelled from the penalty spot against his former club before Rob Cottier touched home what proved to be the winner and a big blow to St George’s.

Steven Priestnal hit a hat-trick as St Mary’s also displayed their aspirations with a 5-1 victory at newly promoted St John’s.

Frank Jones and Jamie Skillen netted the others for the Saints as the visitors took charge after a close first half in which the St John’s consolation came from the penalty spot.

The in-form Ciaran McNulty also hit a treble and Nick Bowden grabbed the other as Gymns saw off Ramsey at Tromode to continue their good start.

There was a final farewell for Jack Walton.

Playing his final match before leaving the Island, the Isle of Man's football development officer came off the bench to score the only goal of the game for Laxey against Old Boys at Glen Road.

Walton scored with his first touch, a close range header, to seal three important points for the Miners.

Michael’s misery at the bottom continues.

They led Corinthians 1-0 at the break before the visitors gained maximum points through Nigel Moody, Steven Ward and Steven Cretney goals.

Union Mills also remain pointless after Castletown triumphed 4-2 at Garey Mooar.

Mike Edge, Lee Davenport, Jamie Foy and Tony Duggan grabbed the goals with Chris Kelly and Chris Murdoch finding the net for the Millers.
