More volunteers needed for annual beach clean

by isleofman.com 19th September 2009

The Isle of Man is playing its part in an effort to clean up 400 beaches throughout the British Isles this weekend.

Volunteers are being sought for three sessions which are taking place on the Island, the first of which is at Ramsey North at 2.30pm today (Saturday).

Tomorrow the venues are in the south, at Chapel Beach in Port St Mary and Gansey Bay.

It's all part of the Marine Conservation Society's annual Beachwatch Big Weekend.

Michelle Haywood, who is organising the Port St Mary effort, says they are looking for people of all ages to get involved (play audio file):

Anybody who wants to help the beach cleaners in Port St Mary needs to get down to Chapel Beach by 9am tomorrow. In addition, divers and snorkellers are needed from midday.

For further information on the beach cleans on the Island you can visit the Marine Conservation Society's website, but click on the North West region of the map rather than the Isle of Man.
