Volunteers getting ready for annual beach clean

by isleofman.com 17th September 2009

Anybody who thinks the Isle of Man's beaches are dirty has a chance to do something about it this weekend.

The Marine Conservation Society's Beachwatch Big Weekend for 2009 is taking place, on Saturday and Sunday.

It's a nationwide scheme with over 400 beaches around Britain taking part.

Thousands of volunteers will collect and bag rubbish, and the data gathered will be used in the MCS's ongoing campaign for a cleaner marine environment.

Three beaches on the Island will be targeted, namely Gansey, Chapel Beach in Port St Mary and Ramsey North.

Litter Project Co-ordinator for the MCS Emma Snowden says the survey and litter collection in Port St Mary will also involve divers (play audio file):
