This Saturday (19th September), sections of vintage films from the Manx National Heritage Film Archive will be shown to the public in the Manx Museum lecture theatre.
The one-hour presentation, which starts at 2pm will be followed by a showcase of the entries in the Isle of Man Arts Council’s Young Film Maker of Mann competition and prize-giving ceremony.
MNH Archivist Wendy Thirkettle said, "Manx National Heritage was invited by the Isle of Man Arts Council to contribute to the third Isle of Man Film Festival and was delighted to respond positively by providing a screening of material from the archives.
"The fact that this event is to be followed by a showcase of current film making talent on the Island fills me with great optimism that creativity and productivity in this media field is alive and well."
The archival footage will include 1940s scenes in wartime Peel; colour scenes of the proclamation of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II from Tynwald Hill in February 1952; the Peel Viking Festival of the 1960s; Ronaldsway airport in the 1950s; and farm work and farming traditions on the Island.
The Isle of Man Film Festival 2009 runs from 17th-20th September and encompasses events held at the Ballakermeen High School Studio Theatre, Peel Centenary Centre and The Nunnery grounds.
Saturday's programme starts at 2pm in the Manx Museum, with the audience invited to take their seats beforehand.
