Fire at house where smoke alarms were turned off

by isleofman.com 15th September 2009

Fire crews have dealt with a chip pan fire in Port Erin.

Three appliances were sent to a house on the Edremony Estate just before 7.30pm yesterday.

Officers wearing breathing apparatus went into the property and put out the flames.

The occupants had escaped from the building, although one person was treated for possible smoke inhalation.

Fire damage was confined to the kitchen, with smoke damage to the adjoining rooms.

Smoke detectors had failed to operate because they had been turned off, and the Fire and Rescue Service is again stressing the importance of ensuring alarms are fitted and that they are kept in full working order.

If you are having problems with your smoke alarm or would like advice on the subject you can ring 647300.
