Government told to pay for paddock improvements

by isleofman.com 14th September 2009

It's looking increasingly unlikely Douglas Borough Council will contribute much money towards the laying of hard standing behind the TT Grandstand, to avoid a repeat of the mud bath which cast a shadow over the recent Manx Grand Prix.

The local authority owns the land which was turned into a quagmire by heavy rain, but Leader of the Council David Christian has already said there are no funds available at the Town Hall.

Leisure Services Committee chairman Stephen Pitts is repeating that the ball is firmly in the government's court and he is also making the point that, for the past year, the area behind the grandstand hasn't been considered a campsite.

He also says there's no question of anybody being compensated for any difficulties experienced, because nobody was charged for staying there (play audio file):

Talks on improving the area are ongoing, and Tourism and Lesisure Minister Martyn Quayle has said he hopes a temporary solution will be in place in time for TT 2010.
