Bravery medal for former Island student

A former pupil of Ramsey Grammar School says he was shocked to find out he had won a high honour for his bravery in Afghanistan.

Lieutenant James Adamson, of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, was given the Military Cross for his courage when he was confronted by Taleban fighters after running out of ammunition.

The 24-year-old's parents Andrew and Trisha live on the Island and his girlfriend, who had made him promise not to do anything dangerous during his tour of duty, says she is very proud of him.

Lieutenant Adamson describes the moment when, armed only with an empty rifle, he charged at the insurgents:
