Minister suggets ways of easing traffic congestion

Transport Minister David Anderson is urging parents to share cars or walk their children to school.

His comments come after heavy traffic congestion on the first day of the new academic year, caused partly by broken-down traffic lights but made worse by the number of people doing the school run.

Wednesday's problems in North Douglas led to sharp criticism of the Department of Transport, but Mr Anderson says the traffic light failures were beyond anybody's control.

He says if people got together to form car pools for youngsters, it would significantly cut the amount of vehicles on the Island's roads:
