Minister Abandons Plans to Raise Bus Fares

by isleofman.com 9th September 2009
The Department of Tourism and Leisure has confirmed that its proposed changes to concessionary bus fares will not be progressed.

At the end of July, the Public Transport Division deferred its decision to modify the longstanding policy on concessionary bus fares for persons over the age of 60 years.

Martyn Quayle, MHK Minister for Tourism and Leisure, comments “Having now reviewed this matter, and reflected upon the concerns raised by Members of Tynwald and the public, I have advised my Public Transport Division that this policy proposal should not form part of the ongoing Bus Services Review, and I have decided that the proposed changes to the concessionary bus fare scheme will not be progressed.”

He continued, “Members of the public can therefore be reassured that the current concessionary bus travel arrangements for persons over the age of 60 years will remain as they are and will be unaffected by the Bus Services Review.

"The Department regrets any anxiety caused to members of the public whilst this matter was being resolved.”
