Manx2.com Strengthens North-East Link

by isleofman.com 9th September 2009

Manx2.com has announced it is to increase the frequency of flights on its latest route, from the Isle of Man to Newcastle.

The airline began operating its eighth route on 27th August 2009 after stepping in to save the link to the North East when the previous operator announced it was to withdraw its services.

There has been such a positive response to the re-introduction of the link by Manx2.com that frequency will increase to five flights per week from 14th October, with the addition of a new Wednesday service.

Passengers have responded in a positive way to the re-introduction of the Newcastle route. The load factor currently stands at around 60%; it stood at an average of 35% with the former operator.

Currently, flights operate between the Isle of Man and Newcastle on a Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

The route has been scheduled to run until the end of the year but the company is hoping to secure its long-term future; an announcement about the future of the service into 2010 and beyond is imminent.

Manx2.com Chairman, Noel Hayes, believes much of the success of the route comes down to the competitive flight prices, which are cheaper than those offered by the previous operator.

“I am delighted with the positive response we’ve seen to the introduction of Manx2.com’s low fares on this route, and we are responding to customer demand by adding a fifth weekly flight every Wednesday.

“Meanwhile, we are working with our airport partners on an even more ambitious programme for 2010 which, subject to finalising details, will include a full seven day service.

"The link to the North East is vital for tourism, business and family connections and not having this would have a detrimental effect on the Island and its people.”

The extra flight will depart from the Isle of Man at 1.30pm every Wednesday, with a return departure from Newcastle 245pm.
